This study abroad course will focus on the concept and practice of urban sustainability in the global perspective, which emphasis how to support the simultaneous development of our society, our economy and the environment without sacrificing any aspects. Through field study across various disciplines, the course exanimates the most challenging sustainability issues we are facing. The course provides students with experiential learning in the application of the current theories, models and methods used in engineering, architecture and urban planning to specific, real-world issues of sustainable urbanism as they are currently being confronted in the rapid developing countries.

Virtual Assistant for Boeing is shortlisted for 2018 Crystal Cabin Award

Our project has been shortlisted to for a 2018 Crystal Cabin Award! Students led by Ming Tang at the University of Cincinnati and the Live Well Collaborative developed the Virtual Assistant, Boeing Onboard, in the Spring of 2017. Boeing Onboard is a virtual assistant combined with a holographic interface which all passengers have access to onboard planes. Through augmented reality and wearable glasses, Boeing Onboard has the ability to provide passengers with valuable information, such as safety demonstrations, in-flight entertainment, and web browsing. Boeing Onboard is an in-flight concierge service connecting the passenger to all the resources and information the passenger needs for the ultimate travel experience.

Project exhibited at the ACSA 2018 conference

Mara Marcu and Ming Tang’s project, “Augmented Bubbles,” is exhibited at the 106th ACSA Annual Meeting: The Ethical Imperative. March 15-17, 2018 in Denver, Colorado.

 

ACADIA 2017 exhibition, publication, and presentation

 

Ming Tang and Mara Marcu’s project “Augmented Coral” is exhibited at t he Association for Computer Aided Design in Architecture (ACADIA) 2017 Conference at MIT. Boston, MA.  Nov.2-4. 2017. The project is also published in the In Association for Computer Aided Design in Architecture (ACADIA) 2017 Conference proceeding. Mara Marcu presented the project at the ACADIA 2017 project seminar, at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, MA on Nov 1st. 2017.  You can check out the Architect’s newspaper, and exhibition pictures here.
