ENVE/PLAN 5199/6099, SAID6099 Course Description

This seminar course, with faculty-led travel to China and Thailand, will focus on the concept and practice of urban sustainability from a global perspective. Through field study across various disciplines, the course examines many of most challenging urban sustainability issues. The course provides students with experiential learning in the application of the current theories, models and methods used in engineering, architecture and urban planning to specific, real-world issues of sustainable urbanism as they are currently being confronted in two rapid developing Asian countries.

Eligibility:

The course is open to both undergraduate and graduate students in all disciplines

The Study Abroad Component

  • Beijing, China and Chiang-Mai Thailand, Dec 8-23, 2017(tentative dates)
  • Experiential learning: the life of a Chinese college student
  • Staying in dormitories at Chinese/Thai universities and interacting with Chinese/Thai students
  • Unique connections to important cultural, environmental and urban development sites
