Intersect / Physical / Surface Split

Split Surface

Split surface requires a surface input and curve input. These figures are then used to split the surface according to each curve. Fairly simple. I then inserted an area script to recognize each “piece” created from the split surface operation. There are then endless possibilities for what can be done with each “piece”. Offset? Rotate? Extrude? you name it

Project P1 – Case Study

Louis Vuitton Roppongi Hills Store.

Jun Aoki, 2004. Tokyo, Japan.

The following curtain wall system is composed of 28,000 transparent glass tubes and 2 reflective perforated steel panels. The combination of these elements create different degrees of transparency and opacity, whether the viewer is standing indoors or outdoors. These conditions are also contingent on natural factors, especially sunlight. In my project there are multiple opportunities for exploring different forms, but in this case study, the circular patter is associated with the Louis Vuitton Logo / Branding.

I see this as an excellent option for skyscraper construction because it creates a vary public interaction with its surroundings, whether with nature or urban surroundings. For examples, the view from the exterior depends on the interior conditions; while the interior view is also vary much contingent on the exterior conditions. Author Farshid Moussavi describes the ‘affect’ of this system as kinetic because it is dependent on the viewers position; moving as the viewer moves. The urban environment is also very kinetic.
