In a time when Earth has depleted all of its natural resources, humanity finds a new, inexhaustible source of energy. However, the use of all of Earth’s natural energy has created irreparable weather anomalies such as long and heavy rainstorms and extreme temperature fluctuations. The green, glowing power source that powers the city looks over an exhausted industrial district that survives only to work to keep the city’s buildings and infrastructure intact in the unforgiving climate patterns of the region.

Overpopulation and the increasing amount of urban density has propelled the future of housing development in the vertical direction. Even in the outskirts of the city, housing units are stacked on top of each other and now meet the eyes of even the tallest skyscrapers. These units use materials reminiscent of the old landscape in years past. The new found altitude of human habitation has dictated the growing production of flying automobiles. People found living among these lofty dwellings can commute to the city’s heart using these automobiles.

In this extreme dystopian society, man has polluted Earth to the point that it is no longer viable. All natural resources have been depleted, forcing humans to look for opportunities to cultivate cities elsewhere, including outer space. Unfortunately scientists have not yet successfully grown long-term plant-life, so there is a lack of greenery. Tragically, man has still not yet turned to clean energy sources, so pollution is still a toxic problem in this industrial-park-like galactic society. This interstellar city floats independently of all other planets in the galaxy, although it lies adjacent of Mars.

In the future, many buildings tend to be unique and stand out, hoping to touch the sky. Others consist of a simple shape and have metallic facades to reflect the crazy shapes of their neighbors and the landscape below. Many of these cities are located along a large body of water, which seemed like an ideal location when they were first built. Over time, constant rains and rising water levels caused the cities to flood. As water filled the streets,  it limited the use of transportation. Foundations began to erode and collapse. This caused each building to sink at a different rate. Those which were built the highest began to sink the quickest. The more the cities sink, the more the architecture begins to blur together. While movement between buildings has become difficult, the buildings are still able to be used both above and below the surface of the water. Boats and deep sea diving became the most popular methods of seeing the city. The dangers of the city have changed as no one knows for sure what may exist at the bottom of the water. Can the built environment coexist with the environment in the depths of the water?

In the future, overpopulation will be devastating and people will have to find other places, not on the ground. Together, people will build robots that construct a new habitable place under the sea. Instead of having construction workers, the robots will have the advanced technology to build a new living “house” that incorporates the greenspace, rooftop, a cylinder “elevator” that transports people to their dwelling space surrounded by waterproof louvers and glass. The “house” is movable, in any direction so people would have the freedom of moving their house to any new environment. As more of these houses are built, communities will grow and establish their own style and system. These communities will still keep some elements that people often get on the surface. For instance, in this community, it’s about the brightness that these buildings emit. This is an important element that people will try to bring to the community because of the nonexistence of the sun in the sea. The robots will be able to lit the buildings, carve out under the sea, and bring people down group by group. They will freeze water in a decided zone and color-code their zoning of community, making sure each is unique and functional to people.

As the tension in the world rises, war ensues. Every country is fighting- even Switzerland. Everyone wants power. Everyone wants control. Then the second cold war begins. Only this time, there is no peaceful ending. As the nuclear bombs are dropped from planes and the built environment is demolished, humans are forced to find another solution. Any chance of escape on the surface was destroyed. So, we begin to move underground, forming communities in caves on the underground river system. Buildings are carved within existing columns and the dark caves are partially lit by electric lights that have been salvaged. Eventually we create a new mode of lighting our homes. Because the rivers travel between the surface and the underground cave system, the water must be treated for any contamination. After the necessary treatment, the streams take on a luminescent quality, helping to light the cave system. We travel between communities in gondolas that were salvaged from the explosions. Yes, times are hard and we must learn to adapt. But adapt we do; humans are a strong species. We learn to live again, with music and dancing and family. However, we never forget our previous lives on the surface, or lose hope of one day returning to the sun.

In a post apocalyptic world decades in the future, two feuding clans have come to a stalemate in the Exodus wars. After the staggering nuclear war between Canada and the newly formed nation of Texas in the year 2043, the world had taken many years to reconcile. With the United States caught in the cross fire, the land beneath us was ravaged and not even the rodents survived. After the bombs went off, all technology was wiped out and the world was left in the dark. The humans to survive the blast rose out of the ashes and began to form clans. Unradiated land was a rarity and at first the clans worked together to rebuild, but with limited resources they broke away. The only option was to build flying vessels to avoid the common dust storms and poisonous rainstorms that ensued. After some time, a war broke out over the last remaining fresh water lake in what used to be Colorado. The leaders of the Dolemus and Euvien clans decide to end the war in one final battle on their ships, alone. They wait in angst as the first shots are fired and the wind whips through their hair. *Llly’s Theme plays in the background*

The City of Klapton is a refueling station for ships in a distant future. The varying colors of the skyscrapers resemble the type of business that takes place there. There are not two similar business operations in the city.

After 2.6 million years, the ice age is coming to an end. Sun shines and days continue to warm. Life multiplies and species are beginning to thrive again. It is a hopeful day for the humans.
